Wrocław

Welcome to Wrocław!

Practical Tips:

  • Travel: Wrocław is served by the Nicolaus Copernicus Airport (WRO) which is well connected to the city center by public transport. If you want to avoid air travel, there are also various trains and buses to and from Wrocław. The Polish train company is called PKP (Polskie Koleje Państwowe) and has a website where you can check for connections.

  • Accomodation: There are numerous valid and affordable options in the city center and next to the physics department. We suggest you to consider the Campanile hotel (https://maps.app.goo.gl/WHugRKYV65TEXCUW9) which is less than five minutes from the department. You can book a room on their website.

  • Transportation: You can take trams and buses checking their schedule on Google maps or on the website https://jakdojade.pl/wroclaw/trasa/. For tickets, you can conveniently buy them with your credit/debit card inside the public transport via an automatic machine. In order to reach the city center from the airport, you can either take a direct bus, or we suggest you to take an Uber instead of a regular cab as it will be cheaper and more convenient. From the train station you can easily reach the city center by tram.

  • Institute: We are located in the Institute of Theoretical Physics (Instytut Fizyki Teoretycznej), which is part of the faculty of Physics and Astronomy (Wydział Fizyki i Astronomii). The mail address is: pl. M. Borna 9, 50-204 Wrocław, Poland.

  • Payments: In Poland the official currency is złoty (PLN). Almost all the stores/shops/restaurants accept credit/debit card, so that in general you don’t need to exchange any cash to PLN. However, if you want to, there are multiple exchange points (Kantor) or even ATMs (Bankomat).

  • What to eat: In Wrocław there are many restaurants (restauracja), coffee shops (kawiarnia) and bakeries (piekarnia) almost everywhere. These places offer you a wide variety of cuisines from all around the world. If you are interested in traditional polish cuisine, you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to go to a pierogarnia to try the typical Polish dumplings.

  • Sockets: Poland use C-type outlets. If you come from most European countries (except for Italy, Switzerland) you should be fine.
